We're Back!

Welcome back everyone and welcome to 2016 in Room 1 at Tokomaru School - yes, we are Room 1 now!

It was great to see everyone this morning and hear about what everyone got up to during the break - with all this great weather it is no surprise so many people spent time at the beach and while we're not right by the beach, we did spend our afternoon cooling off in our school pool!  Make sure you bring your togs and towel every day to continue enjoying it...

Seesaw

Thank you to those parents, caregivers, and grandparents who have already signed up and are receiving little glimpses of your child's learning throughout the day.  I had a stats report saying that last week 41 items were uploaded, we had 29 comments from family, and 21 likes - fantastic start!  I Room 2 looks forward to more feedback as more of our families sign up.

Please contact me if you have not had an email from me requesting sign-up as this means I may not have your current email address.

The feedback thus far has all been positive as everyone feels like they are 'in touch' with their child's school day - better than getting "nothing much" in answer to "what did you do at school today?"...

Ag Day 2015

Perfect weather for people and animals alike!  Room 2 did well with their inquiry ideas - the birdhouses, bird feeders, cupcake decorating, Minecraft QR codes, and pinata whacking were all big hits with the crowds.

Birdhouse Building for Ag Day

As part of our inquiry, we are making birdhouses to sell at Ag Day.  We started making some last week with our awesome parent helpers, Dave and Ronnie, then this week we have Wiremu's Poppa and Conner's Grandpa and Nana helping us.  We are so lucky to have so much help!

Wiremu and Matthew help each other
Ben adds some detail to his plan
Wiremu looks to nail the wood together
Reilly has her plans ready for action!
Nicole has her wood prepared.
Molly starts to saw.
Wiremu's Poppa helps with the 'tricky' bits.
Conner's Grandpa and Nana measures up.
Roland drills his wood together - he said he hadn't done this before, but he was great at it!
Wiremu makes sure Poppa is doing it right :)
What is hard about making a birdhouse?
How much do you think we should sell them for?

Big Pumpkin Contest

We have entered the Mitre 10 Big Pumpkin Contest.  We planted our pumpkin plant on Friday after having a bit of a tidy-up in the garden area.

There is a prize for the biggest pumpkin so we are going to have to look after it to ensure it grows!

Room 1 and Room 6 have entered too - I wonder which class will have the biggest pumpkin?

Ayjae gets rid of some weeds.
Riley said "Mrs Bismark, do snails like pumpkins?"
Ayjae and Isabel worked together to clean up the leaves.
Everyone helping and working together to get the job done!
Madisyn prepares the pumpkin for the ground.
"Good work, everyone" said Madisyn.
What do pumpkin plants need to help them grow?
