New Zealand Symphony Orchestra: The Happiness Box
What a privilege! We got to experience an engaging, interactive performance of The Happiness Box by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. The music was a tribute to WW100 commemorations.
"Even if we have nothing else, if we have friends, if we are kind, if we are resilient and work hard, and if we use our brains, we can be happier than someone living in a king's palace"
What was your favourite part of the performance?
Which instrument would you like to play?

??Question of the Week??
What is the nicest thing a friend has ever done for you?
Double click on the green blackboard and add your thoughts - ask someone at home for help if you get stuck. Please pop your first name in the top so I know who responded...

ANZAC Day
Today marks 100 years since ANZAC soldiers landed at Gallopoli and began a a very hard campaign in World War One. Many soldiers from both sides lost their lives.
Our Field of Remembrance at the front of our school grounds and our school service yesterday honours their memory.

Happy Easter!
I hope that you are all having a great start to your holiday. I am looking forward to hiding some Easter eggs for Liam to find - he was too young last year to enjoy chocolate eggs so I might let him have one or two this year.
Here are some fun things to try out this weekend:

Hi Room 1!
I hope that you are all having a great holiday and having lots of fun!
I want to introduce you to a little one who has heard lots from you over the last 9 months, but hasn't met you yet!
On the 28th December, Liam Scott Bismark was born at 11.30am exactly. He was 9 pounds 11 ounces (see if you can change that into kilograms...) and quite tall at about 57cm. At the moment he loves to have lots of cuddles and enjoys sleeping - I hope that lasts!

Ag Day 2013
While the weather wasn't too kind to us, we had plenty of community support with everyone turning up on the day to watch us compete and buy lots of goodies from all the stalls!

Printmaking
As part of our unit looking at endangered animals in New Zealand, we created some prints inspired by the animals, their habitats, and New Zealand.
These prints will be used for fundraising - contact the office to get your orders in for calendars, cards, and diaries.
Check out some of these links on our blog for more information about the animals and birds we have been focusing on:

Maths: The Cost of Building
For Maths today we were learning some geometry language like 'cube' and 'face'. The context we were looking at this through was buildings.
We had several tasks to complete in our groups, including working out the cost of building materials and paint.
Check out some of the tasks below and see if you can solve the problems:
Each cube that is on the ground (1st story floor) costs $10
2nd story cube - $15
3rd story cube - $20
4th story cube - $25
What would these buildings cost?
What would the most expensive building cost?
