Whai - Maori String Game

Ella shared her knowledge of a traditional Maori string game called 'Whai' this morning. Her mum taught her the 'Cup and Saucer' and 'Eiffel Tower', and Ella is trying to learn '4 of Diamonds', 'Butterfly', and lots of others. Some of us came up with a few of our own like 'Parachute' and 'Arrow'.

Take a look at the photos of our class trying out the game, as well as a video of Ella that shows you how to play:

Olympic Rings Biscuits

To celebrate the Olympic Games coming to a close, we made some Olympic Rings Biscuits.  We made shortbread circles to represent the rings.  The five colours of the rings were made in icing by ten students - we think making red is quite tricky!  After they rings were baked, we iced them and got together with four classmates to make the symbol of the Olympic Games.

Take a look at the photos of our success!

What do the colours of the rings represent?
Why do you think it is important to have an event like the Olympic Games?

London 2012 Olympic Games

You can keep up with the number of medals we are winning at the London 2012 Olympic Games link thanks to Google.

If you click on the circle that is over each country, it tells you who won, which event, and the type of medal.  So far New Zealand has won three medals, and if you click on the distribution key on the left it shows how many gold, silver, and bronze medals each country has won.
